Thought provoking detail and ideas is something I strive for in my work. By contrasting different media and using varying amounts of realism, my pieces become something of their own. This is apparent in pieces like “In the Red”, where the hard neckline is softened by the dress’s soft velvety texture. This is also seen in “Magnolia”, in which the realistic graphite background only grows in depth when contrasted with the simplistic fabric magnolia. Ideas like these come with an exploration of reality. I believe that by contrasting images and textures an alternate sense of reality may be achieved, and my goals as an artist are closer to being accomplished.
